Avoid people and situations that bring you down

Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to avoid it in the first place. Are there people or situations you find depressing? Do your best to avoid them, if possible.

Exercise

Exercise is not only good for your body, it is good for your mind. Physical activity produces “feel good” chemicals called endorphins. These improve your mood in a wholly natural way. So try to make sure that you exercise for at least 30 minutes per day every day.

Think about something positive coming up

Do you have a vacation coming up soon? Visiting a friend in the near future? Going out for dinner at the end of the week? Seeing a movie on Friday that you are really interested in? Think about the good times you will be having in the future and you will spend less time lingering on the mundane here and now.

Believe it or not, conflict can make life more interesting

During times of prolonged stress, we all fantasize about having a life where nothing ever went wrong. The truth of the matter is, if that were the case, life would be incredibly monotonous and dull. Think about all of the stressful situations you have successfully navigated in the past and recognize that you will get through the next one, too. Just hang in there, think about the good times in your future, and remember that everything will be all right in the end.
